HAND PRACTICE

Our hand practice comprises the surgeon, Dr Neil M Freed, who is fellowship-trained in hand surgery and has been practising the art of hand surgery for the last 25 years. The other team members are a group of hand therapists who are intimately involved with the postoperative management and care of the patients. They are an essential, integral part of the team.

All our hand procedures are performed at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital, where the theatres are equipped with all the latest instrumentation and technology. The majority of patients are admitted on the day of surgery and discharged on the same day. Regular follow-up patients are seen by the surgeon and the hand therapist. Free communication between the surgeon and patient is always available. The surgeon, Dr Neil M Freed, is fellowship-trained. This means that the doctor qualified first as a specialist in orthopaedic surgery and thereafter spent time at an academic institution doing just hand surgery to obtain his fellowship in that subspecialty. He has been doing hand surgery exclusively since 1992. The other team members are hand therapists, who are all qualified occupational therapists specialising in the rehabilitation of the hand.
